CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY
EWS is Britain's largest rail operator and the primary activity of the company is the movement of freight by rail.
Rail freight provides an efficient, economic, safe and environmentally sound means of transporting goods. The services pioneered by EWS remove up to 25 million lorry movements annually from Britain's road network, providing substantial societal benefits to the taxpayer by reducing air pollution and helping to reduce road congestion and accidents.
EWS operates across the whole of Britain and takes its environmental and social responsibilities seriously.
The continuous development of staff, safety and environmental policies by EWS ensures that the corporate responsibilities of the company to care for the welfare of its staff and manage its impact on the environment and society, while running these services, is met.
Later this year, EWS will publish its first Corporate Social Responsibility Report, outlining the ways in which the company fulfils its social responsibilities.
